How to get rid of down arrows after updating to windows 8.1

After I updated to windows 8.1 I saw some tiles showing down arrow. I think it indicates there are updates and they need to be downloaded.  This appears only on Microsoft apps and not on others.

Following is the solution if you want to get rid of this down arrows.

First you need to uninstall Microsoft apps that show down arrow.

To uninstall apps on windows 8.1, go to the start page and then right click on the app tile you want to uninstall and select uninstall. If you are on the touch screen, touch and hold the tile and then tap uninstall.

Then go to the store and right click or swipe down from top edge. Then click or tap Your apps.

Then click or tap the app you want to install and gain click or tap Install.

Then you will see the uninstalled apps and there you can install them back again and you will see no down arrow on the tiles.

I am not sure this is something to do with Avast or not but this method worked perfectly for me.

How to change the font size of Asus Taichi 21

As Asus Taichi 21 has 11.6 inch screen with full HD resolution, the native font size is very small. Basically it is very difficult to read something on the screen unless you have a very close look at it.

Any way you can have a close look at the tablet mode easily, but not on the laptop mode because you are a bit way from the screen on the laptop mode than on the tablet mode. The result of this is the strain after trying to read something in tiny letter on the screen.

Of course there is a solution for this. For instance if your work with MS office application or so you can easily increase the size of the letters by zooming in. If you are on the laptop mode, you can use touch pad and pinch to zoom in.

If you are on the tablet mode you can pinch to zoom in. But one thing you need to remember is, in this instance, it is only the document that will zoom in. But all tool bars and icons of the programme will remain smaller.

If you need a permanent solution for this, you need to change the font size globally in your Asus Taichi 21. How do you do that?
Following steps will guide your trough how to change the font size of Asus Taichi 21. Remember this method is not specific to Asus Taichi 21, but it is a windows feature, So any PC, laptop or tablet running Windows 8 or 8.1 will have this option.

How to change the font size of Asus Taichi 21

1) Go to the search box and type “Make text or other items larger or smaller”. You don’t need to type the whole thing but as you type you will get it. (if it is Windows 8 I think you have to select the category as Settings)

2) Then you can do the changes in the following screen

Asus Taichi 21

I was looking for Asus Taichi 21 for some time until I bought it about a month ago. I did a lot of research on the internet whether it is Asus Taichi 21 that I really need. But what I learnt from reading reviews everywhere on the internet was that it confused me a lot. There are pros and cons in everything so I tried to forget the review and concentrate on my requirements even though I have all the reviews I read in my mind and of course it will have an impact on the decision I am going to make.

My main requirements were good keyboard as I do a lot of typing, good battery life as I will be using it a lot on the move and being ultra portable. I was also a bit concerned about using it as a tablet, basically a convertible being able to use as a laptop and a tablet as well so I don't need to carry an ipad or any other tablet (plus a laptop)

Most comments I read on the internet still influenced me - specially the battery life. Asus claims maximum of 5 hours batter life for Asus Taichi 21. But most reviews tell me it will last 2-4 hours. But I also read somewhere on the internet the battery will be fully charged within an hour or so. So, for me if it lasts for 3-4 hours that would be more than enough for my requirements.

I was not much worried about software or driver issues because I know it could be fixed any way.

I have listed the problems with Asus Taichi 21 that people have found. (I found these by reading reviews and forums)

  • Battery life of Asus Taichi 21 is a lot worse than Asus claims it to be (Asus claims it to be upto 5 hours but actually getting about 3-4 hours)
  • Some have found cracks on Asus Taichi 21 just out of the box
  • Some people says the Asus Taichi 21 has a small screen and the icon and letters are too small to read (which I think is expect in 11.6 inch screen with Full HD resolution)
  • Battery charging port of Asus Taichi 21 is faulty or loose or gets damaged easily
  • Earphone mic combo port of Asus Taichi is faulty.
  • The inside screen is not a touch screen and with windows 8 its pointless having a non touch screen.

Some people are really happy about Asus Taichi 21 and in most forums they have given 5 star rating. People like it using as a tablet as well as a ultra portable laptop.

Having all these in my mind I bought Asus Taichi 21. Fortunately I did not find any of the issues I read on the internet. Battery last for about 3-4 hours which is good enough for me ( as a laptop rather than a tablet). I am happy with this product.
